A brilliant  young hacker with a knack of getting into trouble.

Playing with Fire (Book 1)

Sixteen-year-old Farris Barnett is a girl with a big heart and a mouth to match. Recently relocated to sunny North Carolina, she’s all too pleased to be leaving her old life—and the stigma of her troubled past—behind her. A new school, new friends, and not one but two hot guys vying for her attention, life certainly doesn’t suck. But just as things seem to finally be going her way, a series of computer hacks puts her newfound happiness—and the lives of the people she loves—in jeopardy.

Farris must put her amateur sleuthing skills to work and uncover the identity of the person behind it all before they graduate from harmless tampering to all out murder, even if it means risking her own life in the process. And unfortunately for Farris, the guy she’s falling for just happens to be the prime suspect.

In Too Deep (Book 2)

When one reckless night leads Farris Barnett to the washed up body of a dead classmate, she’s as willing as everyone else to write it off as a suicide. That is until cryptic messages start coming in from someone who knows the truth, and they want Farris on the case. Her love life in turmoil, Farris turns to the only person she can trust to help her get to the bottom of things, Cole, a notorious playboy and friend on the verge of becoming much more. Putting her emotions aside and her detective skills to work, she begins to unravel the life of a victim who might just have been the guiltiest of them all.

With her life—and her heart—on the line, Farris will confront a killer with a secret so shocking not even she could have decoded the truth.

The biggest bombs, the ones that do the most damage, are the ones you never see coming.

Readers' Favorite 5 Star Review

Wow! Just wow! How’s that for a review? I just finished reading author Sherry D. Ficklin’s novel, Playing with Fire, Book One in her new Hackers series, and I must say that I am simply blown away! Follow the story of Farris, an unusually talented young hacker, as she tries to use her skills to protect her father from taking the blame on a government project gone wrong. The further she falls into this sticky web of intrigue and sinister plots, the more she realizes that if she doesn’t act, the lives of many are at risk. But with action, she’s putting her own life and the lives of those she loves in danger. What will Farris decide? You’ll need to read the book to find out!

I loved this book. Loved. It. Author Sherry D. Ficklin has done it again, writing a book that is simply un-put-downable. She has done a fabulous job in developing characters that the reader will relate to, root for, and continue to think about long after the book is done. If that’s not a hallmark of a great writer, I don’t know what is. The scenes she’s written are so realistic that the reader will feel completely sucked into them, heart pounding. Any reader, whether young adult or not, who enjoys action, suspense, thrillers or a great mystery will love Playing with Fire. I highly recommend this book, and can’t wait to jump into my next read by a new favorite author, Sherry D. Ficklin!
